Our love for lace never seems to wane, particularly when we can look to the newest wedding gown collections for renewed inspiration.  Certainly, we don’t have to look much further than the traditional lace gown and veil Sarah Burton designed for Kate Middleton to offer the ideal creative spark. And we’re not the only ones inspired by the elegance of lace. Apparently, from what we hear from our brides and grooms, incorporating lace into wedding decor and event design is tremendously intriguing these days. One of our favorite methods of bringing lace into play is through table linens.  As seen above and below, this dove gray and dusty rose pink feast table was designed completely around a bolt of bridal veil lace found in a fabric store.

Rather than create an entire overlay or table linen that would hang to the floor, we created a wide table runner that showed off the lovely scalloped edges of the lace. Tailored lace chairbacks were also sewn into fitted panels that were tied to each chair with velvet ribbons. Vintage silver compotes were filled with lush arrangements of antique pink hydrangea, mauve roses, dusty miller foliage and pale pink mini calla lilies. Silver chargers, cut crystal and crystal taper candle holders add formal sparkle, but it’s the pops of black in the chairs and cut-glass votives that add a little touch of modernity to the setting. The same beautiful lace was added to other wedding day accessories, such as wrapped around the bridal bouquet, printed on letterpressed menus, and stenciled on the wedding cake.  Finding and working with such simple elements of inspiration is exactly how we prefer to spend our days in the design studio.  And, if the Spring fashion trends of colored lace dresses are any indication, we’ll be dabbling in lace for months to come.
